Josh and Ron met in the Marine Corps in 1997 while working on CH-53E helicopters. They spent the next several years together, building their skills, learning leadership techniques, understanding business practices, management of manpower, the importance of customer care, and the important roll that checklists play. They even found time to deploy to Japan.
Josh served for 5 years and ended his time in 2000. He moved back to Texas where he started a family and moved on to other adventures and careers.
Ron decided to stay in and make a career out of the Marine Corps with several more deployments and assignments. He decided to hang it up and retired in 2016.
After Ron retired from the Marines, Josh had an idea that Ron and his family should move to Texas and together they could start a pool company.
In June of 2018 that happened. Panther City Pools was formed in September and the business officially started in January 2019.
Starting with 24 pools we have grown to close to 250 pools in just under 5 years. We have developed relationships with other pool companies in the area as well as the local communities. Our business has mostly grown organically with customer referrals being the biggest help.
We take customer communication very seriously and try to go above and beyond to ensure that questions are answered and that most everyone has a positive experience.
After many, many, many name suggestions and requests to the Texas Comptroller with no luck.
Around this time we heard a story told by an "old timer" in Fort Worth.
He claimed that back in the cattle days there was a rivalry between Dallas and Fort Worth. A newspaper man from Dallas exclaimed that it was "so quiet in Fort Worth that panthers roam the streets".
We heard this story and decided that a bit of history mixed in with a new pool company wouldn't be a bad idea. And that is how we got the name Panther City Pools!
We offer weekly pool service that includes: Testing and Balancing your water, Emptying Skimmer and Pump Baskets, Emptying Cleaner Bag (as required), Brushing Pool Surfaces, Netting any Debris, and Vacuuming (as required). An incorrect assumption is that saltwater pool systems are chlorine-free. Both pools have chlorine in them, it just depends on how the chlorine is delivered. While you don’t add commercial-grade chlorine to saltwater pools, chlorine is still present. The saltwater pool system uses electrolysis to produce low levels of natural chlorine.
A salt pool will be outfitted with a chlorine generator and will produce it's own chlorine naturally. As the salt from the pool passes through the salt cell a chemical reaction takes place which produces chlorine and delivers it back to the pool.
Some things to note about salt cells...
1) The main pump has to be on (check manual for rpm requirements) to produce chlorine.
2) The percentage on the panel is how much chlorine you would like to produce.
3) The salt readings should be verified with a device other than the panel reading.
Chlorine pools are less expensive to install and maintain than saltwater systems. However, freshwater chlorine systems require more monitoring to keep them clean but not overly chlorinated. You have to add manufactured chlorine weekly in tablet or liquid form. These pools also require other balancing agents to counteract the potentially harmful effects of chlorine.
Cartridge filters are popular, are a little easier to maintain and can filter particles down to 5 microns in size.
D.E. filters take a little more maintenance and can filter particles down to 2 microns in size.
Sand is the most natural form of filtration, take the least amount of maintenance and can filter particles down to 20 microns in size.
We recommend cleaning your cartridges every 4 months.
For D.E. filters we have found that every 6 months is usually sufficient as long as you are backwashing the filter and recharging it with D.E. every few weeks.
Sand filters should have the filter media changed every 3 to 5 years.
Salt cells stop producing chlorine once the water temp is too low. In order to keep chlorine in your pool it may be necessary to occasionally add commercial-grade chlorine.
Panther City Pools uses an app to ensure that our technicians are servicing each pool consistently. Once the technician has completed service on your pool, you will receive a detailed email showing who was there and at what time, along with a breakdown of the services performed. To top it off your email will include a picture of how your pool looked when the technician left.
We try hard to ensure that we have happy customers and we understand that it may seem logical to service the pool every two weeks (after all, no one is swimming in the winter). In these scenarios we have found that we usual end up spending twice as long at your pool and end up with huge chemical swings that can lead to pool or equipment damage.
